When words fail me...

Jackie Speier speaks on the House floor (C-SPAN)

Sometimes words fail me when I hear about how heartless, how selfish some people can be in regards to the suffering of their fellow man. How can they turn their backs on starving children, the disabled, and the elderly living on less than $5 a day? Rep. Jackie Speier of California put a lot of my thoughts into words in her address to Congress today. You can read her words or watch a short video of her speech at this link.

Thanks, Jackie. You put it well. When will we ever learn?

Contact with corporate America has filled me with disgust. It seems most politicians are their lackeys, living the good life at public expense while taking generous 'campaign contributions' from their corporate paymasters. Good for Jackie Speier in having the courage to speak out against these practices.

Likewise. There's greed and then there's something that's even more than greed...uber-greed? It's not enough for CEOS and corporations (and even some politicians) to make billions--they need to make UBER-BILLIONS and damn all who get in their way. Will a "googleplex" of dollars ever be enough for those afflicted with uber-greed? You do wonder.

Amos 8:4-7

Hear this, you that trample on the needy, and bring to ruin the poor of the land, saying, "When will the new moon be over so that we may sell grain, and the sabbath, so that we may offer wheat for sale? We will make the ephah (about quart) small and the shekel great (raise prices), and practice deceit with false balances, buying the poor for silver and the needy for a pair of sandals, and selling the sweepings of the wheat."

The LORD has sworn by the pride of Jacob. Surely I will never forget any of their deeds.
